OVERVIEW

The objective of the repairs, carried out by our local partner PETROENERTECH , were to reinforce 18 units of 36inch conductors supported platform suffering from external corrosion. To restore the structural integrity of the platform and prevent further deterioration, it was decided to install our REINFORCEKiT® 1D

SCOPE OF WORK

According to client’s requirements and superficial metal loss, it was decided to apply REINFORCEKiT® 1D. 2 layers of composite were determined to reinforce each conductor over 10 meters height.

Surface preparation was completed with sandblasting to get a good surface roughness (superior to 60μm Rz) and ensure a good bonding between the steel pipe and the composite repair. Hygrometric conditions were checked, and the surface was cleaned with acetone.

The composite wrapping repairs were then completed following below stages (application procedure is the same for the 18 units to be reinforced).

1/ F3X8 filler to reshape the conductor if necessary and P3X1 primer application on the defected areas

2/ Once the “Touch Dry” was reached, composite wrapping was completed applying 2 layers of REINFORCEKiT® 1D over 10 meters height. To do so, our water activated composite system was unrolled spraying water continuously

3/ Compression film was rolled all over the wrapping, and slightly pierced using a perforating toll. Any trapped CO2 gas bubbles could evacuate to avoid any further corrosion.

The composite wrapping repairs were then completed following below stages(application procedure is the same for the 3 areas to be reinforced).
1/ F3XS1 filler application on the defected areas (straight lines and bend) to reshapethe pipe.
2/ One layer of R3X70+ resin application on the defected areas (same as above) toprotect the prepared surfaces from corrosion.
3/ Composite wrapping was completed using Kevlar® tape impregnated with R3X70+resin ==> 30 layers completed for a total repair length of 815mm for the straight lineabove the bend / 36 layers for a total repair length of 874mm for the bend / 48 layers fora total repair length of 703mm for the straight line near the flange.
4/ Finishing stage ==> last layer of R3X70+ resin applied all over the repair and id plateinstalled for traceability.

The composite wrapping repairs were then completed following below stages(application procedure is the same for the 3 areas to be reinforced).
1/ F3XS1 filler application on the defected areas (straight lines and bend) to reshapethe pipe.
2/ One layer of R3X70+ resin application on the defected areas (same as above) toprotect the prepared surfaces from corrosion

RESULTS

This project was challenging due to the bad weather and many COVID restrictions, but our local partner PETROENERTECH delivered an outstanding performance applying our REINFORCEKiT® 1D.
