REINFORCEKiT® PATCH, Tank Walls Repair – Middle East
Long-term composite repair solution for tank and pressure vessel reinforcement
Overview
The objective of the repair performed in March 2023 by 3X ENGINEERING (3X) specialists was to protect and reinforce tank walls damaged by internal corrosion. Some areas were severely corroded with significant through wall defects. All interior walls of the tanks were repaired with our REINFORCEKITⓇ PATCH solution.
Results
This project was quite challenging because of the big surface to renovate. The complete interior surface of the tank, approx. 150 sq meter, was covered using two layers of REINFORCEKIT® PATCH product. The tank is now repaired and protected from further deterioration (lifetime of the repair 5 years).

SCOPE OF WORK
The repair design was performed in compliance with API 652 and ISO 24.817 standards. The procedure to repair the tank is described below following 3 main steps:
- Surface preparation and cleaning: Surface roughness was created on all circumference of the tank over 3.2m height by grit blasting (minimum 60-micron surface profile). The surface was previously delimited with abrasive tape. Once the surface preparation done, the walls were cleaned with acetone.
- Filler and steel plate application: 3X filler was applied on all welds to soften the slope. Then holes were sealed using steel plates and 3X specific filler. The size of the plates used was 10x10cm in order to cover existing holes with a minimum of 30mm on each side. The steel plates were holded using magnets until the filler is cured.
- Composite patching reinforcement: First layer of R3X95 resin was applied on the entire surface. Then first patch of Kevlar® fiber with R3X95 resin was applied on the walls starting the application by the bottom of the tank. Once the first patching was installed, second one was applied in the same way.
