REINFORCEKiT® STRUCTURE, Jacket legs – Asia
Composite solution for structural repair

Overview

In March 2025, 3X ENGINEERING (3X) local distributor reinforced and protected four jacket legs with members and two risers using 3X composite solution REINFORCEKIT® STRUCTURE to prevent further deterioration. This solution was selected based on the steel structure's specific characteristics.

Results

Resin samples were collected during tape impregnation for quality control, and hardness measurements confirmed the successful repairs. The structures are now protected with REINFORCEKIT STRUCTURE from impacts and corrosion issues, ensuring long-term durability.

SCOPE OF WORK

According to 3X calculations, it was determined to apply 2 layers of REINFORCEKIT® STRUCTURE, made of fiberglass tape and 3X bi-component epoxy resin, to protect all the defected areas. Two resin types were used: one for in air areas and another one specifically formulated for subsea environment. Surface preparation was completed using sandblasting to remove rust and coatings, creating a surface roughness exceeding 60µm Rz for optimal bonding between the steel structure and the composite solution.

  1. Primer application: One layer of primer was firstly applied on the prepared surface to ensure proper tape impregnation.
  2. Composite wrappings (in air and subsea): Composite wrappings were then completed using fiberglass impregnated with epoxy resin. Two layers were applied on each structure for optimal protection. The tape impregnation was quickly performed using BOBIPREG device within an air-conditioned container before wrapping around the structures. Divers, previously trained by 3X specialists, performed the subsea applications.
  3. Anti-UV coating application (only for in air structures): Last layer of anti-UV coating was applied to protect the solution from climatic aggressions.
