REINFORCEKiT® 4D, Internal metal loss – UAE
High-performance composite repair solution for pipe reinforcement
Overview
In April 2025, 3X ENGINEERING (3X) specialists repaired a 24" pipeline with 7 locations damaged by internal corrosion within a tank farm. The repair was performed using 3X ultimate composite solution: REINFORCEKIT® 4D (R4D).
Results
Resin samples were collected during each installation stage for quality control. Hardness measurements performed after job completion confirmed successful repairs. 3X ENGINEERING recommended the client to apply an anti-UV coating after curing time of 72h in order to improve repair sustainability.

SCOPE OF WORK
Following ISO 24.817 and 3X calculations, 4 layers of R4D, using R3X5 resin specifically dedicated for internal corrosion, were applied. Surface preparation was completed using sandblasting to achieve a surface roughness exceeding 60µm Rz, ensuring optimal bonding between the steel pipe and the composite repair. Hygrometric conditions were checked and all the defected areas (==> 6 on the 24" pipeline and 1 on a 2" elbow), previously sandblasted, were degreased and cleaned with acetone.
The composite repair procedure, identical for all locations, was as follows:
- A first layer of 3X resin was applied to each defect to ensure strong adhesion with the composite solution.
- Four layers of Kevlar® tape, impregnated with R3X5 resin, were wrapped around each defect, resulting in total repair lengths of:
-
600mm for location 1 (24" straight line)
-
1350mm for location 2 (24" straight line)
-
820mm for location 3 (2" elbow) 600mm for locations 4, 5, 6 and 7 (24" straight line)
- 600mm for locations 4, 5, 6 and 7 (24" straight line)
-
- A final resin layer was applied to complete the repair and ID plate was installed for traceability.
